Airlines' Q2 Financials (cont)
============================
Since last week's issue, 3 more airlines have reported financial results for the 2nd quarter (Apr. - June), and 1 airline has re-reported theirs.
Predictably, financial performance for AirTran and JetBlue was as robust as US Air's was shabby. Midwest's restated earnings (downward, as restatements tend to be) reflect additional expenses overlooked in its initial report.
The following table shows quarterly earnings both with and without the government security subsidy and other 1-time items.

And these low-cost carriers, such as JetBlue and Song, are often the ones with cheaper fares than the Goliaths of the industry like American or United.

True (Funny) Travel Stories
=============================
Huffing, sweating and out of breath, a Memphis passenger arrived at the gate for the 8 a.m. flight to Atlanta at 8:10. "Am I late?" he gasped to the gate agent.
Without hesitation, she replied coolly, "No, sir, you're just about 2 hours early for the 10:00 flight."
