Thanksgiving Behind Us, More Miles Ahead
============================

Another Thanksgiving travel exodus is, thankfully, behind us. If you braved the not-so-friendly skies (and even less friendly airports), welcome back. You deserve every last mile and point, base and bonus alike, you earned.

Against the backdrop of systemwide double-mile offers from most airlines and assorted promotions from the larger hotel companies (see http://frequentflier.com/offers.htm for a summary), and with marketing staff and budgets cut to the bone, I expected this to be a slow week for newsworthy developments in the miles and points arena. Wrong!

In addition to the normal do-this/earn-that offers, there are new mileage credit and debit cards, new ways to buy miles and give them as gifts, and positive developments from companies on the periphery of the loyalty space such as MilePoint, Points.com and MilePro.

Thumbs Down on United's Elite Policy
====================================

I am VERY upset with United. I just read (on a travel web site, not United's... still waiting for their email) about new elite status level changes. If what they printed is true, it is totally unacceptable. Not only did American announce their elite status changes over a month ago, they had the wisdom to match 2002's status to this year's. Last year United was quick to ease elite status requirements during their union difficulties. I feel they should have matched American's changes immediately after American's announcement.

Between my husband (1K or Exec Premier over the last 6 years) and myself (Premier for the last 6 years) we have accrued over 400,000 miles flying the friendly skies during that time. No more! Not only will we be flying American Airlines from now on (whenever possible) we won't mind our lack of status for a while. ALL of their coach seats have more leg room, not just the front 5 rows.

Previously United, now American,

- Stacey
