So sorry. I went on vacation after posting in this thread.

My husband has two Amex accounts, and is not a business traveler so his charges weren't as high as some. He also doesn't carry over a balance. Still, he did charge some savings bonds and we had a few large purchases.

I saw on FT that a few people had their fee waived, so I told him to give it a try. He really didn't have to put up a fight, so I guess he was lucky.
